Over the past few years people seem to be asking me two things: 1) Why don't I have a blog about email and digital marketing and 2) Why don't I write a book about all of the seemingly "crazy things" that happen in my every day life.
So- here it is.... my blog - and hopefully it will serve to educate and enlighten those interested in email marketing, digital dialogue and interactive and social media efforts, as well as amuse readers who are interested in seeing what actually happens behind the scenes when there just aren't enough hours in the day.
What is going on right now?
Work:
Less than a year ago, the buzz was about the lines between direct and brand advertising being blurred. Today, we have progressed so much farther in these conversations that it makes my head spin. Today's conversations have enabled us to completely erase the lines between brand and direct and have also now begun erasing any other line or silo that possibly existed in the marketing world. With the onset of Web 2.0 and consumer control, the new paradigm is the customer experience with a brand or product. Sending an email, building a landing page, posting a blog, buying media, or even running TV is 50% less effective than it used to be if it is designed in a vacuum. This is great and terrible at the same time. It's great because this type of marketing actually makes sense. I'm a consumer, and so are you, so now we can build plans that we can actually use and value. It's bad though, because so many service providers, agencies and marketing companies have built their businesses around a silo'd structure and discipline specific approach. Will these companies be able to change gears and adapt fast enough? Or will we see an emergence of new companies with more integrated models that steal market share? Or... is this 1999, 2000 all over again?
Life:
OK.... so those of you who know me, know that sometimes the weirdest things happen to me. Last night was one of them. I am at dinner with a client and try to send a message on my blackberry to a colleague. The message bounces back and says it was not deliverable - odd - but no time to care.
This morning I check my email and have 10 emails from people in my address book giving me their ages: 35, 47, 23, 51 etc.
I'm totally confused- one them sends me the email my "apparently possessed blackberry" sent last night saying- How old r u?... crazy
